It had been 2 months since my first visit to the Dutchess RT phase 4 construction area behind the Page Lumber on Old Manchester Rd. in Poughkeepsie. There has been much progress toward the primary goal of this construction project, the new RT bridge over SR 55.The old Maybrook line Manchester viaduct overpass RR bridge was removed in the late 1990’s when the highway was widened. Two out of the three smaller wedge shaped intermediate supports, for the span sections over the Wappingers Creek, appear to be complete and one has most of the rebar in place. The main SE end support,at the phase 3 (2011) north end,was mostly complete as are the 2 main supports on either side of the highway.

When I had returned from my last visit in April,I had noticed new wood rail fencing along the old ROW now RT,from the highway.I had speculated then that the actual trail part of phase 4 from the south end of phase 2 (2009) might be mostly complete and was paved. On this visit I would enter the Page Corporate Park to see if indeed this section of the RT was more or less complete. As I aproached the SR 55 west entrance to the corporate park, near where the RT will cross the highway,I saw a new viaduct tunnel going under the ROW.I entered the corporate park and saw the the trail had been paved. There were new sections of wood rail fencing. The crossings, and trail access, at the east and west end park drives had not been worked on yet. Before the rail trail was well.. a trail,it was a water pipeline ROW, albeit briefly. The main pump station was built in the middle of the old RR ROW.I could see the trail curve around the north side of the pump station. There was a high chain-link fence gate, that was locked,at the pump station blocking access to the RT.
